I consider myself a creative person; I went to art school, have worked as a graphic designer for most of my professional career, and have a side business designing crochet patterns. But an artist? Recently, I’ve been trying to branch into the graphic arts, entering design contests and submitting artwork for exhibition.
I can design a brochure or logo without any hesitation, but creating work exclusively as art? That’s new for me. It’s scary as heck. And you know what? I absolutely love it. It’s given me a new outlet to create something that isn’t “work.” I’m able to branch out, try new things, and solve new creative problems. I’m excited to follow this path where it leads and believe it will make me a better designer for my clients.
